Money & Pricing
Markup
A percentage added to material and labor costs to cover handling, overhead, and profit.
On a real claim
Markup is a percentage added on top of cost, like materials or a subcontractor's bill, to cover handling, overhead, and margin. On a claim carriers prefer it shown as overhead and profit rather than folded into unit prices. What goes wrong: markup hidden inside line items looks like an inflated price when the carrier re-prices, and it can be stripped out. Check that your costs and your markup are separated so the reviewer can see both.
