Estimate
The priced breakdown of a scope of loss: line items, quantities, and totals.
On a real claim
An estimate is the priced breakdown of the work, and on a claim it is the document the carrier reviews to decide what it will pay. The adjuster usually writes a competing estimate first, then compares line by line. What goes wrong: a thin estimate leaves off items the carrier would have covered, and once it is approved the missing work becomes a supplement fight. Check your estimate against the scope of loss and the codes you actually used before you send it.
