Sheathing
Another name for roof decking — the structural surface under the roof covering.
On a real claim
Sheathing is the structural panels, plywood or OSB, fastened over the rafters to carry the roof covering. On a claim it is often damaged by storm-driven water or broken during tear-off, and it is the same layer roofers also call decking. What goes wrong: a carrier that never got on the roof prices only a few damaged sheets when the deck needs full replacement, and rot stays hidden until the old covering is off. Check for soft spots, delamination, and fastener pull-through, and photograph the deck before you cover it.
