A line item is a single row in an estimate: a code, a description, a quantity, a unit price, and a line total. On a claim the carrier reviews and adjusts line items one at a time, and a dispute is usually about a specific line. What goes wrong: a contractor submits a lump sum or leaves items off, so the reviewer cannot see the detail and cuts the total. Check that every task the job needs is its own line.
