Soffit vent

On a real claim

A soffit vent is the intake vent built into the underside of the eaves that pulls cool air into the attic. On a claim ventilation is sometimes added after the fact because the old roof had too little intake. What goes wrong: a crew installs a ridge vent but leaves the soffit intake blocked, so the attic cannot breathe and the warranty is at risk. Check that intake and exhaust are balanced and open before you close up the roof.
