Material upgrade

A change from the original product to a higher-grade or more expensive material during a repair. An upgrade, such as a designer shingle or a higher-impact product, is usually requested by the property owner. Insurance pays for the like kind and quality product, and the property owner pays the difference. Restoration contractors write the upgrade as a separate line item so the two prices stay visible to the adjuster.
