Loss of use coverage

The section of a homeowners or renters policy covering additional living expenses when the property cannot be occupied. Loss of use coverage is triggered by a covered loss that makes the home unfit to live in, and it reimburses the reasonable extra costs of temporary housing and meals. Clear documentation, including how long the property was uninhabitable, often determines whether the costs are paid.
