Loss date

The date on which the covered damage occurred. The loss date is recorded at the first notice of loss and is important because it starts the timeline for the policy, the claim, and any time limits that apply. It also determines which policy and which deductible are in effect. For a storm loss, the contractor confirms the loss date through weather records and documentation of when the damage was first discovered.
