Independent adjuster

An insurance adjuster who works as a contractor for a carrier or a managing general agent rather than as a carrier employee. Independent adjusters are typically engaged when a carrier is overloaded, such as during a catastrophe, or when a particular claim needs an outside professional. The adjuster's role is the same: inspect the loss, measure the scope, and review the repair estimate prepared by the contractor.
