Indemnification

An obligation one party takes on to cover another party's losses, and it can be written into contracts as well as insurance policies. In claim work, indemnification generally means the insured is put back in the same financial position they were in before the loss, not made better. A contractor reading an indemnification clause should check who is responsible for what, because it can shift risk beyond what the insurance covers.
