The moisture level at which a building material stops gaining or losing moisture and stays stable in the surrounding air. Restoration contractors use this as a reference when drying a structure after water damage. Once materials reach equilibrium moisture content, the drying equipment is removed and the structure can be rebuilt. Knowing the target also tells the drying team whether a wall or floor is truly dry or still holding water.
