The lower edge of a roof that overhangs the exterior wall of a building. The eave includes the fascia, the soffit, and often the gutter system, and it protects the wall from rain. Because the eave is exposed to weather, it is frequently included in storm and roofing estimates. Damage to the eave, such as rot, paint peeling, or pulled gutters, is itemized separately from the roof covering work.
