Duty to cooperate

A condition in most homeowner insurance policies that requires the policyholder to help the insurance company during the claims process. In practice, it means providing access for inspection, answering questions, producing requested records, and acting in good faith while the claim is handled. A policyholder who refuses to cooperate may weaken the claim, which is why contractors often advise documenting everything and responding promptly to the adjuster's requests.
