AHJ

Short for authority having jurisdiction, the local agency that adopts and enforces building codes, issues permits, and runs inspections. On a roof or water-damage repair it is usually the city or county building department. When an estimate carries code-mandated work, the AHJ is the office that approves the permit and closes the final inspection.
